(SLJ Activity 17 Stepup/normal task) Te Huarere/Weather

Hey viewers, today I did a task for the Summer Learning Journey. I learnt how to say "What is the weather forecast" in Maori. I also learnt how to say different weathers in Maori. The hard thing was pronouncing it and if you go to the last slide you will see my and my sister asking a question then answering them. We were struggling pronouncing the words. The easy thing was making my own sentences which you will see on slide 5. I hope you guys like it! Enjoy!

What was your favourite weather in Maori?

  1. Kia Ora Kali,

My name is Zana and I am a blog commenter from the Summer Learning Journey.

I really enjoy these Te Reo Māori activities as I think it is important for everyone to learn and practice this language as it is an important part of the New Zealand Māori culture.

You did an awesome job with this post and I love that you are involving your sister in the activities and helping her learn and practice as well. You did an awesome job with your pronunciation!

He rangi paki is my favourite kind of day as I like being able to go the beach for a swim or a surf, what is your favourite kind of weather?

Merry Christmas, Keep up the great work and I hope to see more of your posts over the summer.

    Ngā mihi nui,
    Zana Yates

  2. Hi Zana,
Its me Kali, my favourite weather is kind of weird. It is actually a rainy day which would be said as He Rangi Hauaua in Maori. I like rainy days because it makes me get the chills and which makes me run all around the place! Thanks for asking bye!

    Nga mihi,
    Kali

  4. Kia ora Kali,

You should be extremely proud of yourself for having a go and trying something new!

It’s never easy to learn new things, and both you and your sister have done an awesome job attempting to pronounce the different Maori phrases.

I looked through your slideshow and had a go at translating what you were saying. This is what I came up with:
    What is the weather forecast?
    A sunny day.
    What is the weather forecast?
    A hot day.
    What is the weather forecast?
    A cloudy day.

Have I correctly translated your sentences?

It would be awesome if you could reply to this comment and let me know!

I am very happy to say that I have learnt a few things from reading your blogpost. Thank you for sharing this with me, and my favourite weather in Maori is either paki or puahuru because I love it when it is hot and sunny outside!

    Keep up the great work!
    Nga mihi
